Archery
With pinpoint accuracy, our campers shoot every arrow into the bulls eye. One by one, hour by hour, not a single miss. And if you believe that, we have a lake to sell you. Actually, our archers learn the basics of the sport - how to stay focused, the importance of concentration, and all the safety guidelines. Some of our campers would make Robin Hood proud! And, alas, some would not. But all that matters is that they have a good time!
Arts & Crafts
Maybe this is how Michelangelo got his start. We have no record of the famous 15th Century artist attending Camp Hodia, but some of our kids' works should be displayed in the Louvre. Actually, most of the bracelets, trinkets, and clay sculptures are lucky to get home in one piece. But some campers have been inspired to fan their artistic flame long after camp is over.
Campfire
Our evening campfire gatherings feature Lynn Wilson on guitar playing all the camp favorites. These evenings always result in some fun "Hodia family" memories!
Carnival
Activities and excitement abound. From face painting and fortune telling to ring tosses and darts, the list goes on and on. There is fun to be had by all! At the end of carnival, hoards of prizes are given out in exchange for tickets earned over the course of this exciting evening! Not everyone is as nutty as old' Colton -- but many kids also dress up in costume for the carnival. However you come, you can't help but have an evening of fun!
Blaine Aquatic Center
The Blaine Aquatic Center is a fun destination during a day trip to Sun Valley. We usually picnic in Sun Valley and enjoy a fun swim and BBQ at the Aquatic Center. After a trip over Galena Summit, we arrive back in time for a campfire and more fun at camp.
Education
Campers enjoy interacting with other kids and adults with diabetes, and quickly discover they are not alone with their disease. They also learn critical self-care skills that last a lifetime. During pow-wows, campers learn about living independently; that diabetes is their own disease and they must accept responsibility to become independent adults. Many kids learn to give their own insulin injections and how to properly test blood-sugar levels. They also learn how to balance meals with activity and exercise and how to deal with the reality of diabetes, its potential complications and how to be happy, healthy, productive people.
Hiking
The Sawtooth Mountains soar to over 11,000 feet and feature some of the nation's most spectacular hiking trails. Camp Hodia offers a wide variety of memorable outdoor experiences, including hikes to high mountain lakes where time stands still and our campers stand tall. We have a variety of hikes available for your particular needs. At teen camp, we host a long day-hike to some of the most beautiful places in the area -- Goat Lake, Sawtooth Lakes and so many others. There are a number of smaller but just as nice hikes to places like Angel Face falls and Josh's Rock. Whatever your preferences, there is a hike just for you at Camp Hodia!
Ice Skating
A quick drive to the world-famous Sun Valley Resort offers campers a break from the cozy solitude of the mountain camp. Our campers always enjoy skating on the rink where the world's greatest skaters regularly entertain appreciative crowds. Tara Lipinski, Brian Boitano, Katerina Witt, Nancy Kerrigan - even Dorothy Hammill back in the glory days - have all skated on this rink. Now that's inspiration!
Lakefront
Alturas Lake, a spectacular alpine lake nestled at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountains of Central Idaho, provides the perfect playground for Hodia campers. Swimming, water-skiing, canoeing - and, of course, an occasional friendly dunking - are always a highlight of Camp Hodia. All water activities are supervised by trained and registered life guards.
Talent Show
OK, so "talent" might be stretching it in a few cases. Strange things do happen during the Camp Hodia Talent Show. The ideas is: If you got it, flaunt it. If you don't . . . well, flaunt it anyway. From crazy songs and goofy skits to classical musical performances, this is one fine show.
